How do I get started? Your first step will be to contact our office. You can reach us at (571) 257-8634, email us at contact@gcllc.org, or through the website Contact Us link. We will respond to you as soon as possible, ask a few preliminary questions, and schedule your initial intake appointment.

What can I expect in my first counseling session? During your first session, you will have an opportunity to share what brings you to counseling. You will be asked about your personal history, and you will get to know how your counselor approaches the counseling process. The most important aspect of your counseling session is that you leave with an idea of what goals you will be addressing while working with us.

How long do people stay in therapy? Everyone has different counseling needs. We are a solution focused practice, so we help you set up goals and objectives that you feel you need to accomplish during your counseling process. These goals and objectives are developed into a treatment plan for your counseling process. These goals are reviewed in each session and modified based on your needs. As a result, you always know what you are working on and where you are in your process.

Is remote counseling as effective as in-person therapy? Yes! Online therapy has been proven to have similar outcomes to in person therapy. Utilizing online counseling can help busy people manage logistics and maintain better consistency for their appointments.

How do I know my therapy is working? Throughout the therapy process, you and your counselor will assess your progress in your treatment plan goals. Additionally, you may start to notice a few things which will validate therapy is working for you. First, you may start to look forward to your therapy sessions, perhaps noting your feel "lighter" after each session. You may notice a shift in your thought process, focusing more on the present moments, applying things talked about in therapy outside of therapy, and making your own daily self-care a priority. You may also find yourself having fun again, doing things that bring you joy.
